The American Association of University Women is one of the nation's leading voices promoting education and equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. AAUW has a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members, 1,300 branches, and 500 college and university partners.
Through its network, AAUW opens doors for women and girls and influences public debate on critical social issues such as education, civil rights, and workplace equity. AAUW also sponsors community programs and promotes the groundbreaking research of the AAUW Educational Foundation on women, girls, and education through its advocacy and action on national and local levels. The Nevada County Branch raises funds to provide local college scholarships for women, funding for the Tech Trek summer camp for girls in science, math and technology, and funds for the national Educational Foundation and its fellowship grants.
January Meeting There is much interest in the Mid-East and the challenges faced by the women of the region. At our meeting in January we will hear from Professor Carla Petievich who is the daughter of AAUW member Zaida Petievich. Carla is the Executive Director and founder of the Hoshyar Foundation, a non-profit group supporting education for girls in Pakistan. As we all know, Pakistan is a country where women and girls have limited opportunites for literacy and advancement.
